e-peas is revolutionizing the IoT landscape with its energy harvesting PMICs (Power Management Integrated Circuits), allowing devices to run without batteries. At Embedded World 2024, e-peas, in collaboration with partners Murata, Semtech, and Dracula Technologies, demonstrated a real-world application where a miniature PCB with LoRaWAN capabilities operates solely on harvested ambient light. The setup included four IoT end nodes transmitting data to a Semtech gateway, showcasing the potential for battery-free applications such as livestock tracking and smart building monitoring.

The demonstration highlighted how e-peas’ AEM10920 PMIC manages energy harvesting, storage, and delivery, ensuring continuous operation even in the absence of light. This capability allows solar-powered IoT end nodes to function in total darkness for extended periods, depending on PMIC settings and storage capacity. e-peas currently offers 17 different PMICs compatible with various energy harvesters and storage elements, providing a comprehensive solution for those looking to eliminate batteries from wirelessly connected products.

e-peas supports energy harvesting from multiple sources, including photovoltaic, thermoelectric, RF (electromagnetic), and kinetic pulse energy harvesters. This versatility was showcased with a Bluetooth doorbell powered by the physical click of a button.
