Building a Battery-Free Temperature Logger is Not Difficult Using Appropriate Component Combinations

In this application note we describe how to  use off-the-shelf components combined with e-peas Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) in order to build an efficient Temperature logger that can be quickly charged with ambient indoor light, be pre-programmed with a Smart phone mobile app via NFC, packed into a closed hermetic-sealed box and parcel, be shipped around the world for several weeks while recording inner box temperature with time stamp, be read-out upon receipt. The logger is reusable as the storage element can be recharged in few hours with ambient light. There is no maintenance, no battery replacement.

Due to the specific combination of device from e-peas ecosystem, an extra thin device can be designed.

Let’s go step-by-step:

Step 1. Select an off-the-shelf Temperature logger*. This device uses NFC for configuration and data readout.

A Lithium primary coin cell is used to power the device during Operations of T Sensing.
Our charter is to replace this highly polluting device with something that is rechargeable and downsized in terms of energy storage capacity, thanks to the use of Energy harvesting, while proposing smaller form factor and providing higher quality of service.

Step 2. Replacing Lithium Manganese disposable Battery with e-peas PMIC is easy:
